What is this?
Attaining knowledge is a fundamental aspect of Islam; there are many virtues and it is known that this deen will not be established by people of ignorance. With the upcoming Islam 101 Dawrah only a couple of weeks away we’re launching a competition to give one person the opportunity to attend this great knowledge course for free – courtesy of donations made by volunteers.
More information on Dawrah: thepathtojannah.com
How do you get in free [you ask in the distance]??
Over the next 7 days we’ll be posting a total of 4 questions at the bottom of this post and will also be letting you know of them by email (so subscribe if you haven’t already).
On Friday 10th June at 3pm the last question will be posted along with the submission form for your answers.
The person who answers all correctly first will InshaAllaah win the free Dawrah, with the second person being the runner-up winning…unfortunately nothing.
In the case of no-one getting any correct answers, wallaahul musta’an, we’ll show mercy to the one who was closest InshaAllaah or provide clues!
So what now????
Well ALL questions are below, get the answers and submit them using the form.
I don’t like the competiton but want to go to the Dawrah!
That’s fine, those who don’t win or don’t want to partake can still book Dawrah tickets by going to thepathtojannah.com and if you quote ‘alkawni’ to info@thepathtojannah.com you’ll get 10% off, wa lilaahil hamd!!
RULES:
Only one answer and only one submission per person. For UK residents only.

Question 1
In the Qur’aan Allaah tells us to increase in only one thing. State what this is quoting evidence.
Question 2
Imam al-Shaafa’i (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “No one has any right whatsoever to say that something is halaal or haraam except on the basis of knowledge, and the basis of knowledge is a text in the Qur’aan or Sunnah, or ijmaa’ (scholarly consensus) or qiyaas (analogy).” Qur’aan, Sunnah, Ijmaa’ and Qiyaas are the sources of legislation in Islam. What is the evidence for Ijmaa’ in the Qur’aan? Explain your answer.
Question 3
Narrated by Imaam Ibn Rajab is the story of Qadi Abu Bakr Al Ansaari Al Bazzaaz, who had once set out in a state of extreme hunger in search of some food. On his path he had found a pouch containing within it material of high value. The owner of this pouch was going around and with a raised voice offering a price if this pouch was returned. Abu Bakr after verifying it belonged to the man rejected to accept any reward for the property belonged to this man, and it was the man’s right for him to have it returned. Abu Bakr through an occurrence had later found himself in a village where he taught the people Qur’aan. To ensure he would return regularly to the village, the people persuaded him to get married to an orphan girl. This girl had with her the material from the pouch Abu Bakr had found earlier and it was later identified this girl was infact the daughter of the pouch owner. Her father would continuously make du’aa that his daughter gets married to the one who found his pouch i.e. Abu Bakr – Allaah accepted the du’aa even after the father’s death. What was inside this pouch found by Abu Bakr Al Bazzaaz?
Question 4
In the time of Abu Bakr radiallaahu anh, when he was Khalif, Abu Bakr had assigned two armies to take care of the conquest of ‘Iraq. Muthanna bin Haritha was head of one camp and Khalid bin Waleed of the other. One individual in the camp of Muthanna bin Haritha by the name of Madh’ur bin Uday had challenged Muthanna as a leader and sent a letter to Abu Bakr requesting Abu Bakr to make him leader over the armies. Abu Bakr had already assigned Muthanna bin Haritha as leader and now Madh’ur was asking for this position. Muthanna also sent a letter to Abu Bakr saying that there was a man who contended with him in this role. Abu Bakr being a great leader knows how to run a jama’ah and the affairs of the people. Explain how he radiallaahu anh solved this issue?
Question 5
In the Hadith of Jibreel, the 2nd Hadith in the ‘arbaaeen by Imaam an-Nawawi, narrated by ‘Umar radiallaahu anh and reported by Muslim we find that Jibril alayhis salaam calls the Prophet salallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam by his name and not by a respected title when Allaah has clearly forbidden this in the Qur’aan. Allaah says:
“Make not the calling of the Messenger (salallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) among you as your calling one of another…” [An-Nur 24:63]
a) Why did Jibril apparently go against this command? Was it because he came in the form of a man, was it to teach the people (these are just examples which may or may not be correct). Explain your answer.
b) Abu Hurairah radiallaahu anh also reports this incident collected in both Bukhari and Muslim. How many ahadith did Abu Hurairah narrate? Cite your evidence.
COMPETITION IS CLOSED. ANSWERS CAN BE FOUND IN COMMENTS BELOW.

Do the UK residents require British Passports to answer these questions?
Like or Dislike:
Somalian passports are fine. As long as you live, or currently present in the UK you can participate. Why not outside UK? I have no idea but it's the rules.

Khair inshaAllaah, but I was wondering, if the one who answers does live in the UK, but is legally identified as alien to the law of this land, can they answer?

At 3pm InshaAllaah (on Friday 10th), both the last question and the submission form will be made available. The individual who then submits the form earliest with all correct answers will win. So although there is no deadline, you have to strive to be first.
We pray it benefits.

Should we add one more question to lengthen the competition?
YES or NO (5 of either will be the decider) – COMMENT OR THUMBS
Also you can submit more than once (e.g. made mistake in the first) and your latest submission will be considered

I've seen some answers for Question 2 and also found out that these particular answers were available on google!! Thus for question 2, ayah 115 from Surah Nisa CANNOT be used. You must find something else.
Those who did can resubmit.

You can use it to a certain extent but don't abuse it, and ayah 115 from Surah Nisa is not accepted.

Hmmm seems like a 5th question is fair now but timing is more important…. how about sometime between 10/11pm and fajr.
If not (too complicated) then perhaps it should be left as it is now…those who followed the time and conditions should win.
Like or Dislike:
At Ahem, we will have to have the 5th question as it was agreed by consensus of the people. Also we don't have one winner yet, so wouldn't be much harm.

Ah MashaAllaah so you have all made it to 5. The last question will be posted at 12am and it will be two parts; a and b InshaAllaah. You must:
- Answer all questions and submit all EVEN if you have made a submission before.
- You must answer both parts to question 5.
- You must identify and answer exactly what is being asked; thus when asked to explain, you must explain. When asked to provide evidence, you must provide evidence making clear the shaahid (the precise evidence within the quote if applicable).
- Avoid copy and paste or copy then thesaurus and paste. Try to verify what you find.
May Allaah allow the person who'll benefit most win and guide us and never leave us to our own souls. Aameen.

Winner: There were a few participants who had the same number of correct answers, although none with 100%. However, two of them had emailed earliest and with very close response times selecting the winner had to go through another process walhamdulillaah. After seeking the help of Allaah 2 dear trusted brothers were consulted who had no relation to the competition or knowledge of the participants.
Each gave a different answer as to which participant should win, Allaahuakbar.
A final third opinion was sought and Walhamdulillaah the winner was chosen. May Allaah allow the individual to benefit immensely and may Allaah save us from shortcomings and faults. Unfair that no-one had actually won, the runner-up will get a total of 30% discount if they wish.

Answers to the questions are as follows:
Question 1:
The one thing which Allaah tells us in the Qur’aan to increase in is ‘knowledge’ as He Jalla wa ‘ala says in Surah Taa-haa, ayah 114:
… “say: "My Lord! Increase me in knowledge.”
Note: It is through the increase of knowledge, the knowledge of Allaah, His Book, His Angels, and more that one increases in Eemaan and in Taqwa. Increase in knowledge leads to increase of prayer and other acts of good. Also note that to increase in knowledge is a command as Allaah uses Qul, ‘say’.
Question 2:
Allaah subhanhu wa ta ‘aalaa says in Surah Nisaa, Ayah 59:
“O you who believe! Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger Muhammad (SalAllaahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allaah and His Messenger (SalAllaahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam), if you believe in Allaah and the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.”
The Shaahid (the part of the ayah that has the evidence) is ‘if you differ’ and the Wajh ad-Dalaalah (evidence that is derived from the shaahid) from this is that in the part of the ayah where Allaah says ‘if you differ’, indicates that the believers will at times differ and other times they will not. So therefore on the times that we differ, we refer it back to Allaah and His Messenger as the ayah states, but when we don’t differ then that in itself is a haqq and an evidence.
Note: This was mashaAllaah from the winning participant.
Question 3:
A Pearl Necklace.
Note: Everyone MashaAllaah got this right
Question 4:
Madh’ur was told to join the army of Khalid bin Waleed. [See the Biography of Abu Bakr, published by Darussalam, p.559].
Note: No one would object to Khalid and his capability, for he was one of the greatest military generals; the sword of Allaah that never fell in a battle before and after accepting Islam.
Question 5a:
This incident had taken place before the ayah was revealed.
Note: Although Jibril alayhis salaam came in the form of a man, he alayhis salaam is an Angel so will not disobey Allaah.
Question 5b:
The question was not considered in results.

5374 channels of hadith were attributed to Abu Hurairah but he had actually only narrated 1236. [See p.23 Usool al-Hadeeth, by Dr Bilaal Philips.]
There is some controversy regarding Abu Hurairah radiallaahu anh, hence the need to cite evidence. There was a lack of or insufficient evidence provided by all participants, thus the question itself was disregarded.
