Allaah, al-Jabbaar
What is the meaning of the name of Allaah “al-Jabbaar”?.
Praise be to Allaah.
The name “al-Jabbaar (the Compeller, the Omnipotent)” has three meanings:
1. Might in the sense of power. Allaah, may He be glorified and exalted, is al-Jabbaar, the One Who compels the tyrants and overwhelms them by His power and might. Every tyrant, no matter how powerful he is, is subject to the power of Allaah, and his power is in His hand.
2. Might in the sense of mercy. He, may He be glorified, helps the weak by making him independent and giving him strength; He helps the one who is fragile and scared by giving him safety; He helps the broken-hearted by removing that which causes their grief, bringing relief and bestowing peace of mind – as well as the reward and good consequences they will attain if they bear that patiently for His sake.
3. Might in the sense of sublime greatness. He, may He be glorified, is far above His creation, yet despite His being exalted, He is close to them and hears all that they say and sees all that they do, and He knows what they are thinking.
Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him).

"He is Allaah , other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allaah above whatever they associate with Him". [Al Hashr 59:23]
The essence of the root j b r ?????? is the irresistible restoration of something, the name Al-Jabbâr describes the nature of the One who is the ultimate restorer of the soundness, wholeness and righteousness of all things. For a human being, any claim to such irresistible power would be false pride and arrogance, but for Allaah it is simply the truth. Al- Jabbar
The One who compels each and every thing according to divine will, yet is never compelled.
