How Great is Allaah

Umm Mu'tasim January 30, 2011 0

In the name of Allaah, the lord of all mankind, the most merciful and the one who bestows his vast mercy onto his creation.

He causes the night to enter the day, and He causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon – each running [its course] for a specified term. That is Allaah , your Lord; to Him belongs sovereignty. And those whom you invoke other than Him do not possess [as much as] the membrane of a date seed. [Fatir 35:13]

Throughout the day how much do you contemplate on the greatness of your creator, be aware O Muslims and may Allaah have mercy on you, that many aspects of this wordly life tries to take you away from the remembrance of Allaah and His greatness, so much so that we no longer appreciate it as we should. Therefore try to keep yourselves attached to seeking knowledge and being around those who remind you of Allaah. One of the best ways one can attain closeness and understanding of the greatness of Allaah is by reading/listening and comprehending al Qur’aan the speech of Allaah. Let Allaah be your guide. SubhanaAllaah.

What follows is a short extract from the works of ibn Qayyim (May Allaah have mercy on him) on the greatness of Allaah.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) described the greatness of Allaah (Subhana Wa Taala) in the most beautiful way:

“Allaah (Subhana wa Taala) is controlling the affairs of all the kingdoms. He (Subhana Wa Taala) commands and prohibits, creates and gives provision, and gives death and gives life.

Allaah (Subhana Wa Taala) raises and lowers peoples status, alternates night and day, gives days (good and not so good) to men by turns, and causes nations to rise and fall, so that one nation vanishes and another emerges.
His (Subhana wa Taala) command and decree are carried out throughout the heavens and on earth, above it and below it, in the oceans and in the air.
He (Subhana Wa Taala) has knowledge of all things and knows the number of all things.
Allaah (Subhana Wa Taala) hears all voices, and does not mistake one for another;

He (Subhana Wa Taala) hears them all, in all the different languages and with all their varied requests and pleas. No voice distracts Him from hearing another, He ( Subhana Wa Taala) does not confuse their requests, and He (Subhana Wa Taala) never tires of hearing the pleas of those in need.

Allaah (Subhana Wa Taala) sees all that is visible, even the walk of a black ant across a solid rock in the darkest night. The unseen is visible to Him, and secrets are known to Him Whosoever is in the heavens and on earth begs of Him (its needs from Him).

“Every day Allaah(Subhana Wa Taala) has a matter to bring forth (such as giving honour to some, disgrace to some, life to some, death to some, etc.)!” [Al-Rahman 55:29].

Allaah (Subhana Wa Taala) forgives sins, eases worries, relieves distress, helps the defeated person back on his feet, makes the poor rich, guides the one who is astray and confused, fulfils the needs of the desperate, feeds the hungry, clothes the naked, conceals faults, and calms fears.

Allaah(Subhana Wa Taala) raises the status of some and lowers the status of others Even if all the inhabitants of heaven and earth, the first and the last of them, mankind and jinn alike, were to be as pious as the most pious among them, this would not increase His sovereignty in the slightest; if they all, the first and the last of them, mankind and jinn alike, were to be as rebellious as the most rebellious among them, this would not decrease His sovereignty in the slightest. If everything in heaven and on earth, the first and the last of them, mankind and jinn, living and dead, animate and inanimate, were to stand in one place and ask of Him, and Alaah (Subhana Wa Taala) were to give them everything that they asked for, this would not decrease what He has by even an atoms weight.

Allaah (Subhana Wa Taala) is the First, before Whom there is nothing, and the Last, after Whom there is nothing, may He be blessed and exalted. He is the Most deserving of being remembered, the Most deserving of being worshipped, the Most deserving of being thanked.
Allaah (Subhana Wa Taala) is the Most Compassionate of kings, the Most Generous of those who are asked .

He is the King Who has no partner or associate, the One who has no rival, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who has no son, the Most High, and there is none like unto Him. Everything will perish save His face,

“…and everything will vanish except His face…” [Al-Qasas 28:88 ]

Allaah (Subhana Wa Taala) will not be obeyed except by His permission, and He will not be disobeyed except with His knowledge.
Allaah (Subhana Wa Taala) is obeyed, so He shows His appreciation, and He is disobeyed, so He forgives.

Every punishment on His part is justice, and every blessing from Him is a favour.
Allaah (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) is the closest of witnesses and the nearest of protectors.
Allaah (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) seizes people by their forelocks, records their deeds and decrees the appointed time for all things. Hearts conceal nothing from Him, for secrets are known to Him.
Allaah’s (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) gift is a word and His punishment is a word.

Verily, His Command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, Be ! and it is. [Yaa-Seen 36:82].

(Adapted from al-Waabil al-Sayib, p. 125)”

So who is sufficiently deluded to question the greatness of their creator…

Shaykh Mahir Al-Mu’ayqali – Al Haqqah

Al-Hafidh Ibn Rajab (d. 795H) – rahimahullaah – said:

“So know that the world – and whatever is above it and below in the water – will not be corrected except when the actions of its people are all for Allaah. The actions of the body follow on from the actions and intentions of the heart. So when the actions and intentions of the heart are purely for Allaah alone, then it is corrected, and likewise the actions of the body will also be correct. However, if the actions and intentions of the heart are for other than Allaah, then it is corrupted, and likewise the actions of the body will be corrupted in proportion to how much the heart is corrupted.” [Jaami` al-`Uloom wal-Hikam p. 120].

And he said, “Hearts will not be corrected until the ma`rifah (knowledge and realisation) of Allaah – being in awe of His greatness, loving Him, fearing Him, hoping in Him, relying and trusting in Him – is not firmly implanted in them. This is the reality of Tawheed and the meaning of the saying: laa ilaaha illallaah (that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah). Thus, hearts will not be corrected until Allaah is made the ilaah (deity) to be known, to be loved, feared and hoped in, and that He – along with this – becomes the only ilaah (deity) worthy of this, without associating any partner to Him in this.” [Jaami` al-`Uloom wal-Hikam p. 120].

“The seven Heavens compared to the Kursee is like a ring in which is thrown into a desert. And such is the magnitude of the `Arsh (the Throne of Allaah) compared with the Kursee.” [Saheeh: Related by Ibn Abee Shaybah in Kitaabul `Arsh (1/114), and Al Bayhaqee in Al-Asmaa was-Sifaat (p. 290), from Abu Dharr radhiallaahu `anhu. The hadeeth is authentic due to its various routes of transmission - as Shaykh al-Albaanee has explained in As-Saheehah no 109.]

SubhanAllaah

And He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Al-Baytul-Ma`moor is in the seventh heaven [directly above the Ka`bah]. Each day seventy thousand angels enter it, and they will not return until the Day of Resurrection.” [Saheeh; Related by Abu Daawood (no 4727) and al-Bayhaqee in al-Asmaa was-Sifaat (no. 398), from Jaabir radhiallaahu `anhu. It was authenticated by Imaam adh-Dhahabee in al-`Uluww (p. 58)

So: “the need of the servants for this (type of) knowledge is greater than every other need; and it is the most necessary of all things for them, since there is no life for the hearts, nor any delight, nor any tranquility, except through knowing their Lord, the only One Who deserves to be worshipped, their Creator – with His Names, His Attributes and His Actions, and that He – along with all that – is more beloved to the person than anything else. So man’s striving is with regards to everything that will draw him nearer to Allaah, to the exclusion of the creation. So the people who know Allaah the best, are the ones who best follow the way to Him; and know best what lies at the end of the way.”
