Hypocrisy

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

All Praise is due to Allaah, Lord of mankind and jinn, and may the peace and blessing of Allaah be upon Muhammad, His slave and Final Messenger.

Hypocrisy is a sickness of the heart. A hypocrite is the one who outwardly professes that he’s a Muslim but his sealed heart contains nothing but kufr!

“Verily, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depth (grade) of the Fire; no helper will you find for them”

[al-Nisaa’ 4:145]

Allaah’s curse is upon the hypocrites as He, the Mighty and Sublime says:

“…May Allaah curse them!…”

[Al-Munafiqun 63:4]

There is so much on hypocrisy in Islaam to the extent that there is a chapter in the Glorious Qur’aan dedicated to this; Soorah al Munafiqun (the hypocrites) chapter number 63.

Hypocrisy can also exist in the hearts of believers. The hadeeth below makes the heart tremble and the eyes flow.

Abu Hurayra (may Allaah be pleased with him) said, that the Messenger of Allaah (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon Him) said:

“The first persons to be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be three, a man who died as a martyr in Allaah’s path. He will be brought forward, and after Allaah has reminded him of the favours He bestowed on him and the man acknowledges them, He will ask, “What did you do to show gratitude for them?” The man will reply, “I fought in You cause until I was killed.” Allaah will say, “You have lied, you fought so that people might call you courageous, and they have done so.” Command will then be issued against him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell. Next, a man who has acquired and taught knowledge and read the Qur’aan will be brought forward, and after Allaah has reminded him of his favours He showed and the man acknowledges them, He will ask, “What did you do to show gratitude for them?” The man will reply, “I acquired and taught knowledge and read the Qur’aan for Allaah’ sake.” Allaah will say, “You have lied, you acquired knowledge so that people may call you learned, and you read the Qur’aan so that they may call you a recite and they have done so.” Command will then be issued against him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell. Next, a man whom Allaah has made affluent and has given him all kinds of property will be brought forward, and after Allaah has reminded him of the favours He showed him and the man acknowledge them, He will ask, “ What did you do to show gratitude for them?” The man will reply, “I have not neglected to give liberally for Your Sake to all the causes approved by you for this purpose.” Allaah will say “You have lied, you did it so that people might call you generous, and they have done so.” Command will then be issued against him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.”

[Muslim]

We ask Allaah to save us from the hypocrisy of the heart and the limbs.
